Le groupe police
Formé en 1977 Police est assimilé au mouvement punk à cause de leur sens de la provocation, le premier passage sur scène les 3 anglais le vivent en France au festival punk de Mont-de-Marsan en 1977. Le groupe trouve alors son style le reaggae blanc et Sting confiera : "A l'époque la seule musique valable c'était le reggae. Nous étions des fans de Bob Marley et par mimétisme j'ai fini par chanter comme lui" Ensuite le groupe a sortit un album puis un deuxième "Reggata de blanc" et c'est le début d'un succès international. "Police n'est pas un groupe rock mais pop, nous faisons de la musique destinée à être sifflée par les laveurs de carreaux" Sting ne croyait pas si bien dire car le succès du groupe fut international malheureusement la discorde entre Sting et Copeland provoquera la fin du groupe moins de 3 ans après la mort de Bob Marley. Depuis Sting a fait une carrière en solo avec plus ou moins de succès et les deux autres se sont recyclés dans la production et la musique de film.

Si le premier police connaît un joli succès "Reggata de blanc" leur deuxième disque permet au groupe de placer "Message in a bottle" et "Walking on the moon" en haut des charts. Malgré un maigre budget de 70 000 "Reggata de blanc" se vend à 8 000 000 d'exemplaire. En France c'était le premier disque d'or du groupe et le début d'un succès international.

En 1983 après une année sabbatique passée à se poser des questions sur la vie police sort cet album. En plein divorce Sting écrit "Every Breath You take" qui restera 8 semaine à la tête du top 100 aux Etats-Unis.
